Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine eligibility expanded

The Department of Health is announcing that Moderna’s bivalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccine eligibility has expanded.

Effective immediately the bivalent vaccine is now available to:

  • Nunavummiut 45 years and older.
  • Immunocompromised Nunavummiut aged 12 and older.
  • All health care workers.
  • Healing facility staff and residents.

The bivalent vaccine can be given at the same time as the flu shot.

Previous COVID-19 mRNA vaccines continue to be available to all Nunavummiut six months and older. Appointments for first, second or booster shots can be made by calling your local health centre or Public Health unit.

In Iqaluit, Iqaluit Public Health will offer vaccinations for the bivalent vaccine by appointment only, beginning September 26, Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Eligibility for the bivalent vaccine will expand as supply increases. The COVID-19 vaccine is our best protection to reduce the risk of severe disease, hospitalization and death.

If you have questions about the vaccine, call the COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST from Monday to Friday, or visit www.gov.nu.ca/health/information/covid-19-vaccination.
