Iqaluit, Nunavut (November 21, 2022) – Today, the Government of Nunavut (GN) and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI), signed a tuberculosis (TB) information sharing agreement that will advance both organizations’ commitment to the elimination of TB in Nunavut.

“NTI is an important and valued partner in our fight against tuberculosis,” said Minister of Health John Main. “Through this newly-ratified information sharing agreement, we will strengthen our organizations’ ability to co-operate with the goal of eliminating TB.”

“It is only through concerted efforts and collaborations like the commitment NTI and the GN are making today that we can truly tackle the issues Nunavummiut are facing today,” said Aluki Kotierk, President of NTI. “This information sharing agreement is one important step in our fight to eliminate tuberculosis in our territory, once and for all.”

Under the new agreement, the GN commits to:

  • Sharing active and latent TB incidence data on territorial, regional and community level data with NTI.
  • Notifying NTI of outbreaks.
  • Sharing defined and relevant disease data publicly.

Under the new agreement, NTI commits to:

  • National TB Elimination Action Plan updates and progress, including funding allocations towards the Regional Action Plan.
  • Hosting its online TB training course for the public.

The agreement ensures data sharing protects personal health information.
