One of Canada’s Outstanding Principals in Rankin Inlet

IQALUIT, Nunavut (January 30, 2014) - The Government of Nunavut is proud to announce that Sarah Ayaruak of Leo Ussak Elementary School in Rankin Inlet is one of 40 principals across Canada to receive Canada’s Outstanding Principals award.

"Sarah Ayaruak is a strong leader who has shared her vision with her staff, students and community in order to provide her students with learning opportunities that always support Inuit language, culture and academic excellence," said Education Minister Paul Quassa.

The Canada’s Outstanding Principals program was developed by The Learning Partnership and is now in its tenth year. The program recognizes the importance of strong leadership in education. Principals are nominated by their peers, school staff and community members in every province and territory.

As part of Canada’s Outstanding Principals program, winning principals will participate in an executive leadership training program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, from February 23 to 27, 2014.

This year’s recipients will receive their awards at the 10th annual Canada’s Outstanding Principals gala dinner and awards ceremony on February 25, 2014 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto.
