Director, Learner Services

This employment opportunity is restricted to Government of Nunavut employees residing in Iqaluit only.

Reporting to the Vice-President, the Director, Learner Services directs, guides, and manages all the Learner Services at all campuses and at the 25 Community Learning Centers. This includes student and family housing, residence administration, catering services, student counselling services, campus and residence security and janitorial services, student transportation, student recreation, student dispute resolution and crisis intervention.

In addition to operational responsibility for Student Services at the Nunatta Campus, the Director is responsible for the development, leadership, and general quality assurance of Student Services throughout Nunavut Arctic College, which includes the Kivalliq and Kitikmeot Campuses.  This is a critical position advocating on behalf of all students throughout Arctic College.  To effectively do so, this position will continuously liaise with Senior Management staff and will attend regular Senior Management meetings.

The incumbent directly supervises the Manager of Security and Facility Maintenance, the Residence Manager, Manager, Learner Commons, Student Counsellor, Career Development Advisor and Recreation & Activities Coordinator, Learner Services Office Administrative Assistant and 3 Student Life Coordinator in Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay and all of whom are located in Iqaluit. The incumbent will indirectly supervise 9 additional staff in Iqaluit. This position will require the incumbent to provide leadership, coaching and managerial direction to all student services staff throughout the territory. 

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Completion of a Master’s Degree in a field related to the Director’s portfolio, such as Counseling, Education, Adult Education, Psychology.  5 years of recet experience leading a culturally diverse complex organization, preferably with an extensive understanding of the post-secondary sector OR 5 yers of recent experience in a senior level position managing multiple staff OR experience in a post-secondary or training environment is an asset.  This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
